Agilent Technologies Expands Alliance with Cadence to Provide Fast, Efficient Wireless Product Development Solutions

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 27, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the expansion of its technology alliance with Cadence Design Systems Inc. (NYSE: CDN) to provide integrated design solutions for fast, efficient wireless product development.

Phase two of the alliance builds on the Agilent RF Design Environment (RFDE) by expanding current RF/mixed-signal IC circuit-level design capabilities to add wireless system-level verification and layout analysis. This is expected to help companies in the communications industry increase productivity and speed development of wireless products, as well as further reduce computer aided design (CAD) infrastructure and total ownership costs. The jointly developed products are expected to become available as early as the second half of 2003.

"Customer acceptance of the two companies' design flow solution has been rapid and industry-wide," said Jim McGillivary, vice president and general manager of Agilent's EEsof EDA Division. "This success and our continued alliance moves Agilent and Cadence closer to the goal of providing a complete systems-to-IC design implementation solution that will help our customers focus on what's most important to them -- creating innovative products."

"Cadence and Agilent have successfully developed integrated RF design solutions that are helping our customers reduce costs and increase productivity," said Ted Vucurevich, chief technology officer of Cadence Design Systems. "We've enjoyed a high level of collaboration with Agilent in all phases of development, and we continue to work together with our mutual customers to identify priorities for future phases of the alliance."

Agilent and Cadence announced phase one of their alliance in February 2002 and introduced RFDE at the 2002 Design Automation Conference. The Agilent RFDE is an EDA (electronic design automation) software platform that tightly integrates Agilent's leading RF simulation technologies into the Cadence industry-standard analog/mixed signal design flow framework. The 2003A release of RFDE, which offers new device models, RF measurement capabilities, data analysis and display features and support for Cadence IC 5.0, began shipping in May 2003. Hundreds of RFDE licenses have been purchased by dozens of companies including Altera, IBM, Motorola, STMicroelectronics, Toshiba and WJ Communications.
